I have an original 'Depot Qartermaster's Office - Guards and Patrols pass' Winchester, Va. dated 4/1/1865. Identified as a Blacksmith. He would have been barely 19 yrs. old. "Brig. Gen'l J. D. Fessenden, Comd'g Post" with Illegible signature of "Capt & A. Q. M.". Pass appears to have been folded in half and embossed - small star on top, scroll, shield, scroll. James Jay Travis has Joseph's bible "that he carried through the Civil War." Buried: Woodstock, Ulster Co., NY. on 23 Nov. 1904.

Harriet is not listed in the 1855 Census data for the family (see notes
on father, Hiram). In an application for 'Pension for Widows and
Orphans' dated May 16, 1866 - Mary Jane (White) Reynolds lists children
under the age of 16 (obviously children under 16 were considered
'dependants' at that time) - so she would have listed all children born
after 1850 (age 5 and below in 1855). The child, 'Mariah' in the Census
of 1855 (age 4 - so born abt. 1851) would have been the first candidate
for inclusion in the pension application. However, the first child
listed is "Harriet B. Reynolds b. Jun 29, 1851 who resides with one Levi
Matthews & Huldah Matthews and has been adopted by them". While it is
possible that 'Mariah' and Harriet were twins and Harriett already
'adopted' before the 1866 Census and 'Mariah' deceased by 1866 - it is
more likely that 'Mariah' and Harriet are the same child.
