    The Onaga Herald
    October 22, 1908

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell of Wheaton will sympathize with them in the loss of their son, John William, who died Sunday evening after an illness of only three days. Mrs. Campbell was in Onaga Wednesday week to attend the bazaar at the Congregational Church, accompanied by her two youngest children. They went home on the evening passenger and the next day Johnny complained of not feeling well. On Sunday, serious symptoms developed and in spite of medical aid the little fellow passed on to be with the Savior the same evening. Funeral services were held at the home on Monday at 2 P. M. Though he was hardly four years old he had learned one of the Sunday School songs and it was sung by kind friends in his memory. Johnny was a general favorite with his playmates and was a lovable little fellow. The mystery of such deaths can not be explained, but the stricken parents can find comfort in feeling that they have a treasure in Heaven who will be given back some day all the more lovely and beautiful because of death. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. L. Marcy of Onaga. The cause of the child's death is said to be diphtheritic croup.
