Thank you for your quick response. After looking into this a little more today, I'm quite sure they are the same Ferdinand.
My Ferdinand was born 3 November 1893 and is listed on the 1900 Census for Huron Co., Sebewaing Village along with his Parents Henry and Mary Dietzel. Ferdinand also had two brothers on that census - Herbert and Hugo. In the 1920 Census, Herbert Dietzel is listed in the Arenac Co. census with a wife, 2 children and his brother Ferdinand. I don't have a marriage date for Ferdinand but he appears to have been still single on the 1920 census. Hugo Dietzel died in California. Ferdinand died in 1969.

I am a 2nd cousin, twice removed to Ferdinand. His grandfather and my great great grandfather were brothers. We are trying to put together a book of Dietzel descendants and are attempting to trace other branches of the Dietzel clan, so thank you for this new lead. I did not, to this point, have any names of Ferdinands children. I will attempt to make contact with one of them.

Again, thanks for the information. I'll let you know if and when I get additional information on Ferdinand and Virginia's family.

The Deitzel spelling is a very common error I run into. The correct spelling is Die but it is spelled Dei in many, many documents including census records etc.

Interesting about Hugo Dietzel...the Social Security Death Index gives date of Death as 15 December 1966. Same person...same social security number but over a month different on the death date. Another thing to track down! Hugo was a doctor so hopefully it will be a little easier to track him down...hmmmm perhaps he healed himself and died another day! Too bad it doesn't give mother's maiden name as that's one thing I don't have yet.

Feel free to publish anything of use that you've gotten from me. If it is of any use to you Ferdinand's father was Henry Dietzel born March 1864 at the Ora Labora Colony, Huron Co., MI, USA. I do not know yet when he died although it was after the 1900 census for certain. Ferdinand's mother was Mary (surname unknown) born in May, 1867 in Michigan according to the 1900 Census. Brothers were Herbert born 21 June 1891 in Michigan and Hugo born 28 June 1896. Herbert died in October 1968 according to SSDI. Herbert's wife appears to be named Mary born in Austria but I would not want to say for sure as her name is very difficult to make out on the 1920 census. Will have to wait until I can look at marriage records or something to be sure about her name.
