Sheriff's sale. By virtue of a writ of Fieri Farlas issued out of the court on common pleas held in and for the County of Clinton, to me directed and delivered against the goods and chattels, lands and tenements of Pardon Irish, I have seized and taken all that certainpiece or parcel of land situate, lying and being in the town of Peru county of Clinton State of New York, and in a patent of 17,983 acres of land granted to Sephaniah Platt - beginning at the north east corner of lot No. twenty seven, in the said Patent, thence running fourth helf of the width of lot No. Twenty seven, to the north east corner of a land sold to John Green, thence west so far upon John Green's north line, thence north to the north line of lot number twenty seven, thence east to the place of beginning, so that it shall make one hundred acres of land and no more - the above lot, together with its apporienants ? will be sold at public endue at the house of Joseph I. Green, in Plattsburgh, on the 5th day of September next, at one oclock in the afternoon. Dated July 24, 1812.

Whereas Pardon Irish and Deborah, his wife, for securing the payment of two notes of hand, the one for two hundred dollars and the other for one hundred and fifty dollard, did on the twenty first day of September, one thousand eight hundred and eleven, mortgage unto Rufus Green, all that certain piece and parcel of land lying and being in the town of Peru, Clinton county and state of New York, in a patent of 17983 acres of land, granted to Zephaniah Platt, beginning at the north east corner of lot number 27 in said patent, thence running south half the width of lot number 27 to the north east corner of lands sold to John Green, thence west so far upon John Green's north line, thence north to the northline of lot number 27, tence east to the place of beginning, so that it shall make one hundred acres of land and no more.
And whereas default has been made in the payment of the said sums of money and notes secured by the said mortgage. Now therefore, know all whom it may concern, that by virtue of a power contained in the aforesaid mortgage, the said mortgaged and above described premises will be sold at public auction at the court-house in Plattsburgh on the 31st day of July next, at one o'clock in the afternoon. Dated Jan 28th 1813.

By virtue of a writ of Fieri Farlas issued out of the Sup. court of the state of New-york, to me directed & delivered, against the goods & chattels, lands and tenements of Timothy Herrington & Edmund Soper, I have taken all that piece of land lying in Peru, Clinton County, containing 150 acres of land in a tract granted to Robert A. Bell bounded as follows; beginning at the north east corner of said tract or patent of land thence running south on the east line of said patent to the northeast corner of a hunred acre lot sold to Wm. Bowin, thence west one half the length of said Wm. Bowin's lot on the north line of the same, thence to the north line of the said patent of land, tence east to the place of beginning, contining 150 acres of land be the same more or less. Also one acre of Land with a saw mill on it, lying directly opposite, on the south side of the river, of James White's upper saw mill in Peru. The above described lots will be sold at the house of Edward Hunter, in Plattsburgh, on the 19th of Dec. at one o'clock, P.M. At the same time will be sold att the personal property of Timothy Herrington. November 6, 1812. Benjamin Graves, Sheriff.

Town of Colden
COLDEN(1) - was formed from Holland, April 2, 1827. It is an interior town, lying S. of the center of the co. The surface is an elevated upland, rolling in the E. and hilly in the W. The W. branch of Caznove Creek flows through the W. part of the town and is bordered by steep declivities 150 to 200 ft. high. The soil is a gravelly loam intermixed with clay. Colden, (p.v.,) on Cazenove Creek, contains a sawmill, a gristmill, and 34 houses; Glenwood, (p.v.,) on the same stream, contains 1 church, 3 sawmills, 2 lath mills, a tannery, and 30 houses. The first settlement was made in 1810, by Richard Buffum.(2) The Presbyterian, at Glenwood, is the only church in town.

(2)Thos. Pope, Josiah Brown, and L. Owen settled in the town in 1810, and Jesse Southwick, Richard Sweet, Nath'l Bowen, and Silas Lewis in 1811. The first birth was that of a child of Thos. Pope, in 1811; the first marriage, that of Jas. Sweet and Charlotte Buffum, in 1810; and the first death, that of Nathaniel Bowen, in 1812. Richard Buffum built the first mill, in 1810. The first school was taught by Mary Eddy, in the winter of 1814.
