Wilfrid was born at 6 Sefton Street, Newton (Newton-Le-Willows), England in the shire of Lancaster. He was born in the year 1904. His father immigrated to Canada in 1905 and Wilfrid and his mother and two brothers (Albert and Walter) followed later that year. Wilfrid had his first birthday aboard the ship. They first lived in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where his father worked in the coal mines. The family moved to Fernie, British Columbia in 1908 where his sister Doris was born in 1909. The family later moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia (on Vancouver Island) and then settled in Merritt, British Columbia in 1910 or 1911. A sister, Minnie, and a brother, Abner, were born in Merritt. The family lost Albert, in a drowning accident, and Minnie, due to a childhood illness, in 1912 and both are buried there. The family then immigrated to the USA in 1915, moving to Dines, Wyoming and in 1916 to Denver, Golden, and Walsenburg Colorado. They moved again, in 1917, to Dawson, New Mexico where Wilfrid's father worked for the Philps Dodge Corporation as a mine superintendent. It was here that the last child, Elsie, was born in 1917.
Wilfrid started working in the mine, at Dawson, at age 16 (1920). He worked in the tipple were they graded the coal and removed the slack. He also worked as a motor man in the mine. There was a major mine explosion in 1923 and the family decided that they had enough mining, in addition Wilfrid's father's health was not good. By 1924 his mother, father, Abner, Doris, and Elsie moved to Detroit, Wayne Co., MI.

Wilfrid met his wife, Deena, in Dawson in 1923 and they were married in Raton, New Mexico on July 2, 1924. After their marriage, Wilfrid moved to Madrid, New Mexico to work the mines there but did not stay long as the mine was a soft coal and there were lot's of cave-ins. So they returned to Dawson where they lived with Deena's parents until they could find housing of their own. They moved to Detroit, Wayne Co., MI in 1925 and lived with Wilfrid's parents and with his brother Walter and his wife, Mable. Wilfrid got a job with the Ford Motor Company and lived in Detroit and Dearborn Township until 1931 when he lost his job due to the depression. While in Michigan, Wilfrid and Deena had three children; Robert Wilfrid (1926), Mildred Jean (1927) and Donald Leonard ( 1929). Wilfrid came to Kelso, Washington on the hope of finding work in the lumber industry, but, with a depression, there was no work to be had, so he went to Los Angeles, California to work, driving a truck for his father. Deena went with the children to help her mother and father in Kelso. The two oldest
children went with Wilfrid to Los Angeles while Deena kept Donald with her and stayed until Allan was born in 1931. In 1932 Deena took Donald and Allan to Los Angeles. Wilfrid returned to Kelso and found work at the M&M Plywood Company in Longview (1934). They lived in Lexington and in Longview until they moved out to Haussler Road in 1935. Wilfrid actually built two houses at this location. The first was built while raising the older children and by 1950 most of them were on their own. In 1953 he built a nice home adjacent to the "old" house as they had just the two younger children at home; Jerry born in 1937 and Dale born in 1940.
Wilfrid worked at the M&M Plywood throughout this period. He did almost every job in the mill and he was very active in the union. He was union representative and eventually became president of the local. After serving as the president, he became a foreman in the mill. The M&M was sold to Simpson Timber Co. and the Longview mill was closed. Wilfrid moved to work at the Simpson plant in Mill City, Oregon where he was foreman. They bought a house in Stayton, Oregon where the younger children finished high school. Wilfrid retired from Simpson in 1966. He and Deena continued to live in Stayton until his death in 1973 at the age of 69.

Wilfrid loved music and was accomplished on the harmonica and had a good singing voice. He was accomplished as a carpenter completely building two houses in Kelso and major rebuilding of their house in Stayton. Mostly he was self taught. He had a real basic understanding of geometry and math as it applied to everyday life. He was a good mechanic and regularly repaired his own automobiles. He loved to travel, especially if he could drive his car or van. he had a passion for photography and for wild flowers (the desert variety). Many of their vacations were spent revisiting places that they had been as children or in their early married years. He also loved visiting old friends and members of the family.
