Elizabeth C. (Picknell) Irish, 87, of Puyallup, passed away Sunday morning (June 2, 2002) at the LifeCare Center in Puyallup. She was the wife of the late Harold Irish.
Born in Seattle, Elizabeth was the daughter of Stanley G. and Bessie I. (Russell) Picknell. She was raised in and attended schools at Centralia, where she married in 1939.
From 1952 through 1966, she was a resident of Orting, moving then with her husband to Puyallup for the balance of her life.
She was employed for many years as an accountant and office manager for Fors (Poultry) Farms in Puyallup. She was a member of the Order or Eastern Star for 54 years and a Past Worthy Matron of the Narcissus Chapter in Orting. She spent many of her last 20 years playing golf and bridge as a member of Lyndon Golf Club.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Nahas of Bellingham; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lisa Irish and her grandsons, Jared and Paul Irish, all of Vernon, CT.
A service is planned for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Hill Funeral Home in Puyallup.

Parents: Stanley Gates Picknell & Bessie Ione Russell. Stanley was b. 30 September 1874, Butte City, Glenn Co., Calif.; d. 31 October 1950, Centralia, Lewis Co., Washington. They were married 4 April 1911, Seattle, King Co., Washington.
Paternal Grandparents: Samuel Picknell & Catherine Maria Gates Picknell Bond.
Samuel was b. Oct. 19, 1834, Milton, Chittenden Co., Vermont; m. Catherine M. Gates 4 May 1869; d. Mar. 13, 1883, Butte City, Glenn Co., Calif. He is buried in Butte City Cemetery, Butte City, Glenn Co., Calif., but there are duplicate memorials in that cem. so will not post a memorial number at this time.
Catherine Maria Gates Picknell m. Joseph Bond in 1886. They moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. in 1890. He died in 1892 (b. 1818). The 1900 U.S. Census find Catherine w/her 2 Picknell daughters, Cora & Sara, residing in Glenn Co., Calif. She is listed as a widow. The 1910 census finds Catherine residing in Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif., residing with her daughter Sara Picknell. She is a widow. By 1920 she is living in Santa Cruz, CA. She d. 15 Mar. 1924 in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Elizabeth m. Harold Booth Irish 25 November 1939 Centralia, Lewis Co., Washington. At the time, she worked as a clerk. Harold's parents were both born in Illinois. This contradicts other data.

On the actual census, "Picknell" was crossed out and "Irish" added for Elizabeth's surname. Father Stanley is an insurance agent with an insurance company; Elizabeth is a fountain clerk in a dept. store.
1940 U.S. Census for Glendale, Los Angeles Co., CA:
Harold B. Irish is a lodger in the Scott family home. He resided in Ft. Lewis, Pierce Co., Washington in 1935. Elizabeth is not listed with him. No occupation is listed for him.
In 1941, Harold was a Boeing mechanic in Seattle, Washington.
Harold Booth Irish enlisted in the U.S. Army on 25 April 1942 in Seattle, Washington. It is noted that he had 2 yrs of college.
Note: Elizabeth had a brother, Russell Gates Picknell, b. 12 May 1912, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; d. 4 October 1988, Seattle, King Co., Washington. He m. Helen Louise Story 1 June 1935, Olympia, Thurston Co., Washington. Helen was b. 7 April 1917, Aberdeen, Grays Harbor Co., Washington; d. 3 January 1989, Seattle, King Co., Washington.
Note: Harold attended Hill Military Academy in Portland, OR. Harold served in last "Horse" Calvary unit at Ft. Lewis, Pierce Co., Wash; served in 29th Engineers stationed in Centralia, when met Elizabeth Picknell at a dance at the skating rink in Nov. 1936. He had already signed up for a two year tour of duty in the Phillippine Islands which occurred from Feb. 1937-1939. Harold served in the motor pool in Manila, driving General MacArthur and General Eisenhower.
At the time of his death, Harold Booth Irish resided in Bellingham, Whatcom Co., Washington.
