    Notes
    • From: W. L. Irish - Res. Blue Ridge, Georgia; He was named after a Confederate leader, a representative of the Southern Revolutionists, who was instrumental in starting the Continental Congress, and had an island off the coast of South Carolina named for him.

      From: Joe Travis
I have found ancestors who were Loyalists during the Revolution (or Quakers who refused to take sides and accused of being Loyalists), but this is the first member of my extended family (that I have found to date 1/16/2000) that is identified as associated with the Confederacy.

      The Forgotten Founder
Charles Pinckney (February 5, 1746 August 16, 1825) was a principal author and a signer of the United States Constitution. This remnant of his coastal plantation is preserved to tell the story of a "forgotten founder," his life of public service, the lives of enslaved African Americans on South Carolina Lowcountry plantations and their influences on Charles Pinckney.

Not exactly what is described by W. L. Irish above... I think somehow "Confederate Leader" got mixed up since he was from the sSouth, but way before the Civil War. Hed did aparently own some slaves however. But then so did George Washington. I find no Island names after him, but there is a "Charles Pinckney National Historic Site" in the Charleston SC area.
